Digital Home is a voice input and output environmental control unit designed for use by peoples with a a variety of disabilities, including wheelchair users and people with severe physical disabilities. It has built in independent voice recognition, and enables the user to control home lighting and appliances with verbal commands. The system responds to the user's voice by speaking back and confirming the verbal commands over a home theater system or stereo system, if such a system is connected. Digital Home also includes a built-in verbal help menu. The system can be expanded with a wide variety of input switches and sensor technology. For users who have trouble communicating verbally, the system has two standard 0.125-inch jacks that allow the user to interface with Digital Home through many different types of switches, pushbuttons, and advanced infrared sensors. For users with severe physical disabilities, the system has an integrated Digital Sip & Puff technology to interface with pneumatic switches. A built-in RF wireless access port and X-10 technology allow the user to interface any PC and run the included software to set up timers and other advanced options. The control unit features an LCD display, and it includes dedicated built-in relays that can be used to interface to and turn on a personal computer, and a dedicated nurse call button relay.
