ScanBuddy is a mouse emulator program designed for use by individuals with upper extremity disabilities, severe physical disabilities, or spinal cord injuries. This program enables people using a switch scanning input method to perform mouse functions (click, double click, drag, right-button click, right-button double click, right-button drag, scroll, Shift Key + either button, Control Key + either button, and pulse click) anywhere on the display. ScanBuddy is designed to work with the REACH Interface Author (see separate entry). Options also are available that enable the user to launch a program of his/her choice and open the settings window to make adjustments to times and options. The user can use one switch for single-switch or inverse single switch scanning or two switches for dual-switch scanning. The switches can be left/right mouse clicks or from external switches emulating left/right mouse clicks. The switch functions also can be assigned to the keys on a hardware keyboard for persons wanting to type with a regular keyboard but minimize movements associated with operating a mouse. Sounds can be assigned to different events to provide additional feedback. This software utilizes the manufacturer's "Section Scanning" to identify a specific area on the display and then line scanning to select the specific target location. Once the location is specified, a scanning menu offers the user different "click" options. COMPATIBILITY: For use on IBM and compatible tablet, laptop, or desktop computers using the Windows operating system. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Windows XP or better, Pentium IV processor or better, 256 megabytes (MB) RAM, 75 MB of hard drive space, and a sound card.
